KARIMNAGAR: The Godavarikhani sub-division police have recovered a huge quantity of CPI (Maoists) party literature, kit bags and uniforms from a dump in the outskirts of Borlagudem village of Mahamutharam mandal on Saturday. A jeep load of party literature, six kit bags, 15 meters of olive green uniform and letter pads were unearthed. — Staff Reporter

Weather balloons

Sangareddy: A bunch of helium balloons created panic near Ghanpur village of Toopran mandal on Saturday when a shepherd boy punched one balloon with a needle. The balloon exploded . Toopran police identified the balloons as those used by the Meteorology Department. No one was injured in the explosion. — Staff Reporter

Postponed coop

HYDERABAD: Elections to the 101 Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies, large sized cooperative societies, cooperative rural banks and farmers' service cooperative societies, which were postponed, will now be held on November 8. According to an official release here, the Collectors and district cooperative officers have been directed to conduct elections at notified places from the stage at which the election process was stopped. — Special Correspondent

Pseudo naxals held

ANANTAPUR: Police arrested 25 members of Rythu Coolie Sangrama Samithi (RKSS), a self-styled revolutionary outfit, which was allegedly indulging in extortion and dacoities, in Rayadurg on Saturday. The outfit leader and six key operatives were absconding. The SP, Sanjay Kumar Jain, stated that the outfit was floated three years ago. — Staff Reporter

Narsi Reddy's kin

seeks ticket

HYDERABAD: Lakshmi Venkateswara Reddy, daughter-in-law of the slain MLA, C. Narsi Reddy, has staked her claim for the Congress ticket from Makhtal Assembly constituency. She wrote to the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi, and the APCC leaders in this regard.

Her husband, C. Venkateshwar Reddy, was among the 10 persons gunned down by the Maoists in Narayanpet in Mahabubnagar district on August 15 this year.

Dies in freak accident

KHAMMAM: One person was killed and two others injured in a freak accident in Kothagudem Thermal Power Station on Friday night. Battuni Sambhaiah, a contract worker died as a cement block slipped off the ropes and landed on him.

He was engaged by a private company, which was involved in the overhauling of the ninth unit. — Staff Reporter

Trapped woman rescued

Nellore: A woman whose leg was trapped in an iron hole on the railway track at Kavali, had to wait for more than two hours before the staff arrived to save her.

Locals alerted railway staff hearing Satyamma's cries for help.

A team from Bitragunta cut the iron plate with a gas cutter and rescued her. — Staff Reporter

Suicide attempt:

boy dies

Tirumala: A mother and son on Saturday attempted suicide by consuming poison at the APSEB sub station at the GNC toll gate, Tirumala. While Tejeswar (12) died on the way to hospital, the condition of his mother, Nagamani (30) is said to be critical.

They are natives of Kolar, Karnataka. — Staff Reporter

Dacoits arrested

Nellore: The police have nabbed an inter-State dacoit gang and recovered from them ornaments worth about Rs. 5 lakhs.

A special team was formed to keep track of this gang which was responsible for several offences in Nellore, Prakasam and Guntur districts.

The dacoits were arrested while they were boarding a bus bound for Guntur on Saturday.
