Maoists make attempt on ex-naxal's life

Dalam member branded informer, shot at

ANANTAPUR: Maoists belonging to Penna Ahobilam Area dalam shot at a former dalam member of the party, Harijana Prasad alias Hari (25), after branding him a police informer at Peruru village in Ramagiri mandal of the district late on Friday night. His condition was stated to be critical.

According to information reaching here, a former dalam member of the party, Prasad alias Hari, of Ramagiri village, surrendered to the police here on September 5. But the Maoist party alleged that he was used as a covert by the police. It is learnt that he was picked by the CPI(Maoist) four days ago, which kept him in its captivity.

He was brought to Peruru around 11 pm on Friday and after making him stand near the bus stop the Maoists fired two rounds at him. One bullet pierced his cheek, while another one missed the target.

While retreating the Maoists raised slogans and warned that whoever acted as police informers would meet the same fate as that of Hari. A profusely bleeding Hari was not attended to by anyone for several hours and later a few villagers took him to the Government hospital at Kalyanadurg after giving first aid at Peruru on Saturday morning. After treatment, doctors at Kalyanadurg referred the case to the General Hospital at Anantapur.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain denied the allegations of the Maoists that Hari was a police informer and that he was used as a covert.
