Widespread rain forecast

CHENNAI: The feeble trough of low pressure over the Bay of Bengal has turned into a low pressure area, continuing to bring rain to several parts of Tamil Nadu on Friday night and Saturday morning.

Red Hills, one of Chennai's water sources, registered the maximum of 10 cm followed by Karaikal, Nagapattinam and Nannilam (9 cm each), Papanasam and Valangaiman (8 cm each) and Tiruchi, Kumbakonam and Lalgudi (7 cm each).

In Chennai, the Nungambakkam observatory received 4 cm and Meenambakkam 2 cm.

The neighbouring Union Territory of Pondicherry received 5 cm. As regards Andhra Pradesh, Tirupati, about 150 km from Chennai, received 10 cm rain.

According to the Meteorological office, the feeble trough of low pressure moved westwards and now lay as a low pressure area over the southwest bay and the adjoining Sri Lanka coast.

Widespread rain is expected over Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry on Sunday.
