CHENNAI: For the first time in six years, the combined storage of Chennai's drinking water supply reservoirs has crossed the 4,000-mcft (million cubic feet) mark. On Saturday morning, the combined storage was at 4,065 mcft against the total capacity of 7,412 mcft. Thanks to the rain, the reservoirs received considerable inflow with the Red Hills recording the highest of 1,623 cubic feet per second (cusecs). Chembarampakkam, which supplements the city supply, had a storage of 1,310 mcft (capacity: 3,645 mcft). Metrowater said the water supplied in some areas was yellow as it got mixed with residual water in the pipelines. The pipelines would be cleaned wherever necessary and chlorine levels increased. Metrowater urged residents to clean the sumps and overhead tanks. Residents having problems with water quality may contact the local depot engineer or area engineer at the 24-hour complaint cell at the Metrowater head office. The phone numbers are 28415312 or 28418436.
