Girl run over by car

Special Correspondent

MYSORE: A five-year-old girl was killed after she was hit by a car in the city on Saturday.

The victim, identified as Nagaveni, was to celebrate her fifth birthday and had visited the Lakshmi Venkatramanaswamy temple on the KRS Road. She was returning home after special prayers along with her mother Nagamma when the car hit her.

Both Nagamma and Nagaveni were crossing the road when a car hit a two-wheeler and injured its driver and later ran over the girl. The car collided with another vehicle before coming to a halt.

The driver of the car fled the spot after the mishap. A large crowd gathered at the spot and staged a protest.

Nagaveni was a resident of Manjunathapura, and as the news of the tragedy spread in the locality, the residents gathered at the accident spot in large numbers.

A section of them identified the vehicle as belonging to a particular house in the area and staged a protest in front of that house resulting in tension in the area. Vontikoppal Police rushed to the spot and senior officers assured the mob of speedy action to nab the absconding driver. A manhunt has been launched to nab the driver.
