BANGALORE: Experienced Rafath Habib of Railways got past rookie Balaji Reddy overwhelmingly to clinch the top honours in the Cue Masters 2005 South Zone qualifying event at the KSBA hall here on Saturday evening. Rafath, the Asian Games gold medallist at Busan proved far too good winning the snooker (30 minute time frame) at 90-15 and swept aside the 23-year-old LLB student 3-0 in the pool. However both Rafath and Balaji qualified from the South Zone leg for the Mastersto be held at Ahmedabad from November 23 to 27. Lucky Watnani strung a few upsets en route to the semifinals, before being halted by Balaji.In all 64 cueists from TN, AP and Karnataka took part in the maiden Cue Masters South Zone qualifying rounds.The unique concept conceived by the Billiards and Snooker Players Association of India and its president Geet Sethi, will have its qualifying rounds in Bangalore, Delhi and Ahmedabad. Two from each leg will qualify for the Masters in Ahmedabad to be held from November 23 to 27. The results (final): Rafath Habib (Rlys) bt Balaji Reddy (TN) 2-0 (90-15; X; 3-0). Semifinals: Rafath Habib bt D. Rajkumar 2-0 (64-31; 51-12; X); Balaji Reddy bt Lucky Watnani (AP) 2-0 (X, 50-33; 3-2).
