LUCKNOW: The Congress on Saturday announced the names of candidates for the two Uttar Pradesh Assembly constituencies where by-polls will be held on December 2. Party sources here said Yogesh Chandra Mishra would contest from the Aurai seat in Sant Ravidas Nagar, while Amrit Singh Birla (Valmiki) would fight from the Nangal (reserved) seat in Saharanpur. The notification for by-polls to Nagal and Aurai, which became vacant on September 22 and May 30 respectively, will be issued on November 7.
Last date
The last date for nominations is November 14 with scrutiny on November 16. Withdrawals of candidature can be done by November 18. Counting for the two constituencies would take place on December 4. The model code of conduct came into effect on October 27 when the first notice was issued by the Election Commission.
EVMs to be used
Electronic Voting Machines will be used in the by-polls and these have already been dispatched to the two constituencies. The Aurai seat fell vacant following thedisqualification of Samajwadi Party member Udai Bhan Singh after his conviction in a criminal case. Nagal seat fell vacant after BSP member Elam Singh died.
