RTC bags highest fuel efficiency award

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Want to improve the fuel efficiency of your vehicle?

Pick up a lesson or two from Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) that has improved mileage of its 2,840 buses from 4.89 kmpl(kilometres per litre) in 2002-03 to 5.03 kmpl in 2003-04, thereby bagging a national award for maximum improvement in fuel efficiency for the year 2003-04 for the Hyderabad city region.

This has not been an easy task for the 6,000 odd drivers who take about 32 lakh passengers on 934 different routes covering 7.4 lakh kilometres per day.

But effective training and counselling for drivers who get low mileage by the best from among the drivers, proper maintenance of fuel tankers and examining other technical aspects are the reasons behind the success, according to C. Panduranga Murthy Regional Manager of H.C.R.

Mr. Murthy, received the award from Association of State Road Transport Undertakings , an apex body of state transport corporations, in New Delhi on October 28.
