Shivrajkumar and Radhika in `Anna Thangi'
Cast: Shivrajkumar, Radhika, J. Srinivasamurthy, Deepu, Vishal Hegde, Hema Choudhari, `Mukhyamantri' Chandru Vijay Films' Anna Thangi, which deals with the theme of filial bondage, is a violent emotional drama that betrays logic, reasoning and craft. Director Om Saiprakash expects the audience to suspend reasoning to appreciate the absurd emotional drama. He promotes superstition against medical science in the name of belief, senseless sacrifices and filial responsibilities. He employs repulsive dialogues and situations in the name of comedy in a manner that taunts the sensibilities and patience of moviegoers. The story is about a feudal lord and his wife who perform religious rites at the Thiruvannamalai Temple to beget a son (Shivanna) and daughter (Lakshmi). The parents later die as predicted in their horoscopes. Shivanna and Lakshmi develop a strong bond and stand by it even after they are married. Problems begin with the entry of "Manthare" (Hema Choudhary), a relative of Shivanna's wife (Deepu), on the scene. The remainder of the film involves the inevitable deception and intrigue in familial relations that lead to tragic situations and demand the lives of Shivanna and Lakshmi for the sake of their relationship. The film struggles painfully to run on the lines of the acclaimed tearjerkers of yesteryear. While Shivrajkumar as Shivanna pleases his fans by delivering some charged dialogues, Radhika as Lakshmi acts well.
