School receives praise from Derbyshire teachers

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: A group of 15 teachers from schools in Derbyshire, UK, had a delightful experience when they visited the Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan (PSBB) schools in the city.

Students of PSBB, which recently won the International School Award, displayed their skills in academics and extra-curricular activities during the teachers' visit. From poetry recital and dramatics to fun learning of fractions and effective communication, the children put up a host of creative programmes.

Even kindergarten students had their bit to add. They dramatised the story of the monkey and the cap-seller for the visiting team. Older students organised a sound and light show on the history of Chennai.

Mark Caswell, one of the teachers, said that he was particularly impressed with how children learnt fractions. He wanted to "filch the lesson" on using apples to learn fractions and take it back to his own school.

Students of PSBB Nungambakkam also expressed the recent experience of tsunami in Tamil Nadu through a module on disaster management.

The delegates who visited the T P Road school showed marked interest in the English classes. Here, children wrote their own book reviews and even tried their hand at authoring stories and poetry.
