Around the City

Power cut in some areas today

There will be no power supply on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in some of the areas of the city. The areas that will be affected are Vidyanagar, Jalahalli Cross, Chokkasandra, Maruthi Layout, Vinayakanagar, Vikasnagar, and a part of 2nd Phase of Peenya Industrial area, according to a release from the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company. There will also be no power supply in O.M. Road, Pai Layout, Rahath Bagh, Kaggadasapura, Benniganahalli, C.V. Raman Nagar, Vijinapura, part of Udaya Nagar, DRDO Quarters, B.N. Pura, Indiranagar, Bagammane Tech Park, Krishnappa Garden, Motorola, i-flex and surrounding areas.

Inter-school competition

Ramakrishna Mutt will conduct an inter-school cultural competition for students from LKG to tenth standard.

Courses

The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers will conduct short-term courses in VLSI, VHDL, Embedded Processor, Embedded "C" RTOs, DSP, mobile communication, EMI/EMC, software engineering, MATLAB and computer networks from November 13 on Sundays at IETE, Bellary Road, opposite Ganganagar bus stop.

Workshop

The Regional Institute of English will organise a three-day workshop on story-telling techniques from November 9 to 11 at RIESI, Jananbharathi campus. Interested graduates, teachers and those who have passed PUC can register by sending an email to riesi@kar.nic.in or call at 23218452. The last date for registration is November 7. The registered candidates should work with RIESI on an assigned project for 40 to 50 days.

Championship

The Bangalore Scrabble Club in association with Scrabble Association of India will conduct the Karnataka State Scrabble Championship on November 27 for those over 18 years and for children (below 18 years) on December 4.

For the benefit of newcomers the club will conduct a coaching class on the preceding Saturday. For details, call at 23615128 or 25367351.

Bank branch opened

UTI Bank has opened a branch at Marathahalli. The new branch, which is located at site

no. 43, Varthur Main Road, was inaugurated on Saturday by P.J. Nayak, Chairman and Managing Director, UTI Bank.
