Tourism not hit by naxalite activities: Orissa

Raipur: The Orissa Government has clarified that the naxalite menace has not affected the tourism sector, and investment inflow to the State was increasing. ``Puri, Bhubaneswar and other important tourist areas are far from [being affected by] any naxalite activity,'' Tourism and Energy Minister Surya Narayan Patro told reporters here.

Participating in an interactive session with tour operators, media and others to promote Orissa tourism in Chhattisgarh, Mr. Patro, replying to a question, said the naxalite activities had not affected tourism. A new office of the Orissa Tourism Department would be opened here soon. To a question about reports of starvation deaths, he said about half of the people of Orissa are living below the poverty line. But the Naveen Patnaik Government has implemented policies to improve their living conditions. — PTI
