News agents felicitated

Coimbatore: Seventy-two news agents of The Hindu who completed 10 years of service to the newspaper and 27 others who completed 25 years of service were felicitated at a get-together here on Saturday. There are 234 newsagents in the region.

In his address, Vice-President (Circulation), The Hindu, M.R. Sivakumar, traced the advances made by The Hindu in reaching its copies early to readers; by road in the beginning, by Indian Airlines from Chennai in April 1962 and by its own aircraft from September 1963 (with parcels for Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Madurai and Bangalore), until the use of facsimile technology for transmission of pages for printing in Coimbatore. Among those who participated were General Manager (Circulation), V. Ravi, and Deputy Regional Manager (Circulation), D. Rajkumar.
