THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The LDF and the UDF are cheating the people of Thiruvananthapuram by putting up rival candidates for the Lok Sabha bypoll here, BJP leader O. Rajagopal has said. At a press conference here on Sunday, he said: "This election is an opportunity for the people of Thiruvananthapuram to register their protest against this game of the two `rival' fronts. In the last Lok Sabha polls the Left sought votes using anti-Congress rhetoric. Once in Delhi, the Left supported the Congress. Now, once again, this game is on. Isn't it enough if both the UDF and the LDF put up a single candidate; wouldn't that be the right way to go about it?" Now, to gloss over this fact, the LDF leaders are saying that there is a pact between the UDF and the BJP, he said. "The statement of the leaders of the NSS and the SNDP that the Travancore Devaswom Board issue will not affect the unity of the majority community is to be welcomed. I appeal to all concerned to ensure that this unity is kept intact. If in the past the UDF and the LDF used the reservation card to divide the majority community, this time round they are using the TDB issue to try and do the same," he added.
