Karunanidhi criticises BJP leaders

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M. Karunanidhi on Sunday flayed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for demanding the resignation of External Affairs Minister K. Natwar Singh following the publication of the Volcker report.

In a statement here, Mr. Karunanidhi said the BJP leaders had been pursuing "politics of confusion" by not allowing Parliament to function, besides demanding the resignation of Central Ministers one after another.

He was dismayed at the failure of the BJP leaders to come up with constructive and healthy criticism. Conveniently forgetting the corruption charges levelled against BJP Ministers during the previous Government, they now demanded the resignation of Ministers of the United Progressive Alliance Government. "This is not at all acceptable," Mr. Karunanidhi said.

Though no charge had been proved, even political veterans such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani had demanded Mr. Singh's resignation. "This clearly reveals their intention that they are more interested in wreaking vengeance on someone than in finding out the truth," he said.
