VISAKHAPATNAM: Landa Srinu, 22, who collapsed in front of the Gopalapatnam police station on Saturday and died later, was an ex-convict. He was posing as a mechanic and was involved in stealing two-wheelers, police said. Srinu was being brought to the Gopalapatnam police station by his parents who were planning to hand him over to the police. As they were nearing the police station, Srinu asked his parents to go ahead stating that he would come a little later. He consumed pesticide and collapsed in front of the police station, Deputy Commissioner of Police V. Ravinder said. He was shifted to hospital by his parents. Srinu was convicted for a three-month term in 2004. Cases of lifting of vehicles were booked against him at various police stations, police said.

The body of a 24-year-old man was found at the railway quarters near Vadlapudi bridge on Sunday. The Steel Plant police said the body of Hemant, 24, a railway kalasi, was hanging from a ceiling fan in his quarters. He reportedly hailed from Kirandul.
