Syntel to start work at Siruseri

CHENNAI: The Nasdaq-listed Syntel Inc, an information technology company, will commence construction work on its proposed campus facility at Siruseri on the Old Mahabalipuram Road in the first quarter of 2006. The campus, coming up on 26-acre, can accommodate 5,000 seats in the first phase and will involve an outlay of Rs. 100 crore. Syntel has two leased facilities in Chennai, employing around 1,100 people.

Keshav R. Murugesh, Chief Operating Officer, said the company would go in for an interim facility to accommodate 500-600 seats until the proposed campus went on stream by the end of 2006. The interim facility would involve an investment of about $2.5 million.

The upcoming campus would serve the needs of both the BPO (business process outsourcing) and IT (information technology) segments, he said.

Syntel was also contemplating campus type facilities in Tier II cities like Madurai, Coimbatore and Hosur.
