Krishnagiri: A Special Monitoring Cell-Helpline has been opened in the district to provide information to farmers on the demand and availability of fertilizers. In a statement here on Tuesday, the Deputy Director of Agriculture, R. Loganathan, said the Help-line will function from November 8 to December 2 on all days between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Farmers could contact (04343) 236003. An agricultural officer will respond to the calls. Mr. Loganathan said that based on complaints punitive action would also be taken against unscrupulous traders for hoarding, overcharging and malpractices would be prevented by effective inspection and on the spot checking by competent officers. Farmers are advised to use fertilizers appropriately with the technical advice of campaigns being conducted by the Department of Agriculture and to avoid excess usage of fertilizers. The demand and supply of fertilizers will be streamlined for the best utilization of the farmers in bumper production thereby utilizing the well spread and torrential rain, Mr. Loganathan added.
