Isolated heavy rain likely in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: Northeast monsoon has been vigorous over North Coastal Tamilnadu.

Rainfall occurred at most places over north coastal Tamil Nadu, at a few places over north interior Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Isolated rainfall occurred over south Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh and south interior Karnataka. Dry weather prevailed over Telangana, Lakshadweep, coastal and north interior Karnataka.

The following stations recorded very heavy to heavy rainfall in centimetres:

Karaikal 30, Nagapattinam 28, Parangipettai 23, Tiruvarur 21, Sirkali (Nagapattinam dt.) 20, Chidambaram and Kattumannarkoil (both Cuddalore dt.) 18 each, Nannilam (Tiruvarur dt.) 16, Panruti (Cuddalore dt.) 14, Cuddalore, Mannargudi (Tiruvarur dt.) and Mayiladuthurai (Nagapattinam dt.) 13 each, Cheyyur (Kanchipuram dt.), Kodavasal and Tiruthuraipoondi (both Tiruvarur dt.), Orathanadu and Pattukottai (both Thanjavur dt.) 10 each, Pondicherry Airport, Thanjavur and Tiruvidaimarudur (Thanjavur dt.) 9 each, Srimushnam (Cuddalore dt.), and Kumbakonam (Thanjavur dt.) and Muthupet (Thiruvarur dt.) 7 each.

FORECAST (valid until Thursday morning): Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places over coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, at many places over interior Tamil Nadu and Kerala and at a few places over south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Lakshadweep and south interior Karnataka. Isolated rain or thundershowers are likely to occur over north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, coastal and north interior Karnataka.

HEAVY RAINFALL WARNING: Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur over Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tiruvarur, Tiruchirapalli, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur and Pudukottai districts of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry during the next 48 hours. Isolated heavy rain is also likely to occur over rest of Tamil Nadu during the same period.
