TUMKUR: Senior Congress leaders here on Tuesday called for an end to coalition politics which, they said, is "harming the interests of the State." KPCC Vice-President and MLA G. Parameshwar; KPCC General Secretary and MLC V.S. Ugrappa; Hindasgeri, MLC; District Congress Committee President S.P. Muddahanume Gowda; the former Tumkur MP G.S. Basavaraju; the former Minister T.B. Jayachandra; and Jaggesh and S. Shafi Ahmed, KPCC secretaries, who addressed meetings at various places here, noted that coalition was a poor political arrangement. Dr. Parameshwar said: "The Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) Government has failed to allocate any money for development and it has not constructed even one house for the poor." "The Janata Dal (S), whose candidates lost their deposit in 96 Assembly constituencies (in the last general elections), has managed to become a partner in the Government. Its leaders are trying to dictate terms to the Congress," Mr. Ugrappa said. Charging district in-charge Minister C. Channigappa with "placing the interest of his party and its leader H.D. Deve Gowda over the interests of the people," Mr. Ugrappa said: "People are watching the lack of performance of the Government. They will teach a lesson to the Janata Dal (S) in the panchayat elections."
