MAKING IT COUNT: Prajusha of Kerala won the long jump event in the National Open athletics championship.
Hyderabad: Tessymol Joseph of Indian Railways won her second gold medal and three new meet records were set on the second day of the 45th National Open athletic championships here on Tuesday. Tessymol, who had won the triple jump on Monday, completed the double when she won the high jump with 1.70m. Tessymol from Palakad said that she did not expect to win the high jump gold here. Her best in the high jump has been 1.75m. However the triple jump remains her first love and her dream is to win an international medal in this event. In the decathlon, Kulwinder Singh of Services chalked up 7257 points to break his own record of 7149 set in 2002. His performances on the first day included 11.12s (100m), 6.62m (long jump), 13.15m (shot), and 49.86s (400m) which fetched him 3658 points. On the second day today he added another 3599 points by clocking 15.60s in 110m hurdles, 41.23m in discuss, 4.40m in pole vault, 61.25m in javelin throw and finally 4m 46.02s in the 1500 metre run to finish with a new record of 7257 pts. The other meet record came in the women's 20 km walk in which Amandeep Kaur of Punjab timed 1 hr 43m 49.0s. She broke the old record, which stood in the name of Jasmin Kaur at 1 hr 48m 28.80s set in 2003. The results: Men: Javelin throw: 1. Anil Kumar (Rlys) 76.31m; 2. Sunil Goswami (LIC) 74.58m, 3.
