Awards don't fool him

World-renowned filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta, who was in Delhi recently, may have won recognition and numerous awards, but he still believes that the learning process should continue to keep creativity alive.

"Awards are dangerous as they lull artists into becoming over-confident about their work and stop them from being creative. While I am happy that recognition has come my way, I do not want to be fooled into believing that I have achieved something. It would kill my creativity. I want to read a lot, write a lot, feel pain and joy and be a filmmaker who can capture for his audience a piece of magic that they missed while being too busy with their every day life," says the legendary filmmaker.

Also very touchy about his age, this "artist and dreamer" claims that while there is some speculation about his age he is in no mood to clear the air. "Everyone wants to know my exact age. What is it about my age? I am well over 50 but why put an exact figure to it. I am still young at heart," said Dasgupta, adding that "it is this spirit that keeps me going from one film to another with ease!"— Bindu Shajan Perappadan
