In its seventh year, the event will run up to November 26. Organised by the network of Alliance Francaise de Delhi and the Service for Science and Technology (SST) of the French Embassy in India, the event opened in 15 cities across the country and will feature lectures by specialists. An endeavour to share the French perspective on global scientific issues, the event hopes to serve as a platform for greater interaction among scientists, researchers, students and the other members of the public alike. This year will see the event showcase how the study of micro-organisms has helped in fighting the AIDS menace. While the Earth Sciences segment will focus on understanding the dynamics of landforms and natural risks in the Himalayas, the impact of information technology on medicine and how it is used to model functional brain areas will also be discussed. This Thursday Dr. Loic Villain will speak on "Einstein Relativity: How Space-Time Came Alive" at JNU, while November 22 will have Dr. Monique Fort giving a lecture on "Geophysical Science" with his area of speech being on landforms dynamics and natural risks in the Himalayas. And on November 24 Oliver Faugeras will deliver a lecture on brain functional imaging and look at "The New Frontier: Observing and Modelling the Human Brain". Lakshmi B. Ghosh
