Pondicherry
Special Correspondent
Pondicherry: An estimated 2,500 employees of the Department of Electricity here will go on indefinite strike from Thursday in support of their charter of demands. Briefing newsmen, N. Pakkirisamy, Power Employees Associations' Agitation committee president said here on Tuesday that although the Pondicherry Administration had powers to implement recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission for payment of revised pay nothing had been done despite repeated representations. The pay anomalies had left them high and dry. They also urged payment of risk allowance to the staff. All cadres of workers and staff up to the level of the Assistant Executive Engineers would go on strike. Mr.Pakkirisamy said there would be no disruption of emergency services however.
