SFI State conference from November 10

Staff Reporter

KANNUR: The three-day State conference of the Students Federation of India (SFI) will begin here on November 10.

SFI State secretary T.V. Rajesh and organising committee chairman James Mathew told a press conference here on Tuesday that the 27th conference would be inaugurated by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar at the Collectorate Maidan here at 4 p.m. It will be preceded by a rally in which 50,000 students will participate, they said.

The delegates's session of the conference will be inaugurated by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat at Dinesh Auditorium at 10 a.m. on November 11. CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate a seminar on higher education and court orders at the Stadium Corner at 5 p.m. the same day.

Mr. Rajesh said the State conference would chalk out a future course of action to fight the moves of communal forces to infiltrate campuses in the backdrop of court orders. The conference will present proposals on a realistic approach towards changes in academic environment on campuses. The organisation will also finalise agitational measures with the objective of making education more popular, he said.

Mr. Rajesh said the conference was being organised in the aftermath of an intense agitation against the State Government's attempts to commercialise education.
