BANGALORE: The India-Pakistan amateur golf tournament for the Ravi Kirloskar Trophy wends its way back to the city, sixteen years after the inaugural event was held here in 1989. The tournament was shelved and was revived only last year. The head of the Pakistani delegate, Aslam R. Khan was touched by the warmth and generosity of the Indians and their hospitality. Non-playing captain of the Indian team, Dilip Thomas was quick to point out the seriousness of the tournament. "The warmth stops on the first tee and continues after the 18th hole. The Indian team is coming out with all guns firing," said Dilip. The score-line reads 2-2 from the four tournaments played so far and hence the Bangalore event would see one of the teams taking a lead in the series. Vijay Kirloskar, chairman of the sponsoring company said that the event would become a permanent feature and new golf courses would be chosen by rotation in both countries. Pakistan's legendary Golfer Taimur Hassan, is part of the 12-member squad and will be playing in the 50+ category. The three-day tournament will have a foursomes event on the first day, a best ball format on the second day and a singles format on the final day.
