SC Railway outplays SBI

HYDERABAD: South Central Railway outplayed State Bank of India 8-2 in the semifinals of the Justice K. Madhava Reddy Memorial hockey tournament for seniors at Begumpet Police Stadium here on Tuesday.

The two teams were locked two-all at the break.

Bharat and Prabhakar Singh struck twice each and winger Dung Dung, Shashi Topno, Chengappa and Amit Shrivas once each for the winner while Sanjay Kumar and Harinath Reddy one each for the loser.

But, the Bankmen lodged a protest against the rival for fielding more than 18 players. The technical committee of Hyderabad Hockey Association will deliberate, verify and if found guilty, might even debar SCR from the rest of the competition.

Eight-wkt win

IAF (Hakimpet) recorded an eight-wicket win against APSEB in the A-Institution league cricket championship match here on Tuesday.

The scores:

A-Division (two-day) league: SA Sports Amberpet 273 bt Continental 99 (D. Satish five for 30) & 128 (Anil Reddy 70, K.V. Srikanth four for 69).

A-Institution league: APSEB 106 (Srinivas 50) lost to IAF Hakimpet 108 for two (Tiwari 63 not out).

Proteas to face HCA XI

The visiting South Africans will take on Hyderabad Cricket Association XI in a practice match ahead of the November 16 one-day international against India at Uppal Stadium here. The players are to report at Gymkhana Grounds on November 9 at 6.30 a.m.

Hyderabad selectors named the under-19 team to play in the all India Cooch-Behar Trophy cricket tournament in Delhi from November 18.

Sports for differently abled

Over 800 sportspersons from 28 organisations have confirmed participation in the three-day meet for the `differently abled' of the Twin Cities.

It will be conducted jointly by the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) and the Commissionerate of Disabled Welfare at the Victory Play Ground (VPG) from November 9 to 11.

Competitions in athletics, kabaddi, cricket, chess and throwball will be conducted in different age groups for boys and girls suffering mental, physical, audio and visual disabilities.

Raichur wins

Raichur fought back to defeat Vizag 23-25, 25-19, 15-12 in the Life Insurance Corporation's (LIC) South Central zonal volleyball tournament at the Lal Bahadur stadium here on Tuesday. About 14 teams from two states are in the fray.

The results: Bangalore bt Udipi 25-10, 25-18; Raichur bt Vizag 23-25, 25-19, 15-12; Mysore bt Dharwad 25-13, 25-18; Warangal bt Belgaum 25-21, 25-12; Machilipatnam bt Rajahmundry 25-23, 25-17; Kadapa bt Karimnagar 25-23, 25-23.

PG College triumphs

PG College (Saifabad) defeated Sardar Patel College 2-0 in the final of the Inter-collegiate tenni-koit tournament here.

Y. Nagesh defeated Ramulu 21-7, 21-11 and K. Rajesh put it across Narender 21-5, 21-5 to complete the formalities.

Semifinal results: PG College Saifabad bt OU Science College 2-1; SP College bt Nizam College 2-1.

SBT beats SBH

State Bank of Travancore (SBT) defeated State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH) by 43 runs in the eighth all-India inter-associate banks' cricket tournament at the NFC Grounds here on Tuesday.

The scores: State Bank of Indore 154 (Tanpreet Indersingh four for five) lost to State Bank of Patiala 155 for three (Rakesh Rehni 61, Manish Bali 51).

State Bank of Travancore 249 for eight (Jagadeesh 75, C. Prasanth 43) bt State Bank of Hyderabad 206 (Anirudh Singh 52, T. Pavan 62).

The Hyderabad squads for the National inter district athletics championships at Haridwar from November 13 to 15 are as follows: Boys: Hari Prasad, B. Ashok, Suresh Kumar, Abhishek, S. Raju. Girls: S.
