MUMBAI: Southern Railway and Western Railway women squads almost confirmed final berths after lopsided wins over Maharashtra and South East Central Railway respectively in the Savio Cup all-India basketball championship. Arnika Gujar starred for Western with four three-pointers in her contribution of 15 points during the 74-58 victory on Monday night. North Western Railway and Central Excise & Customs were too powerful in men's Pool A action over Indian Army and Maharashtra respectively. Mahipal Singh and Ranjit Sijgh excelled for NWR with 26 points each, while Jiji Abraham (26) excelled for Cochin Customs. The results: Women: Western Railway 74 (Arnika Gujar 15, Rashmi Club 11) bt South East Central Railway 58 (Anju Lakra 17, Seema Singh 12) HT 42-26. Southern Railway 97 (Anitha P. 24, Renjini Peter 23, Geetha Ann Jose 22) bt Maharashtra 75 (Manisha Kaperkar 21, Indu S. 19) HT 52-27. Men: Western Railway 108 (Mahipal Singh 26, Ranjit Singh 26, Lokesh Yadav 13) bt Indian Army 80 (Arokia Babu 20, Jayram 12, Philip Kumar 11) HT 43-31. Central Excise & Customs, Cochin 105 (Jiji Abtaham 26, Vivek V.S. 20, Santosh John 15) bt Maharashtra 81 (Nilesh Jadhav 16, Imran Ansari 14). HT 61-49.
