SVU moves to mobilise funds

Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI: Sri Venkateswara University is planning to adopt a three-pronged approach to mobilise funds for augmenting teaching and infrastructure facilities on its 1000-acre campus.

A task force specially constituted by Vice-Chancellor S. Jayarama Reddy, with himself as chairperson, to identify ways and means of resource mobilisation met on Wednesday for the first time and had in-depth deliberations. The meeting with the VC in the chair hammered out a broad plan to accomplish the task.

The first and foremost decision arrived at was to approach the TTD to clear its unpaid arrears towards various funds. The TTD was providing an annual block grant of Rs.20 lakhs to the university and had been asking for a hike in the grant to meet the increasing operational cost.

This apart, the TTD also was providing funds to the university's Oriental Research Institute (ORI) and had also instituted a few chairs in the name of outstanding personalities for promotion of research and higher studies on specific subjects.

As another measure to mop up additional resources for the university, the task force also decided to tap funds from leading industrial and corporate houses, trusts and philanthropists. The university plans to invite them to the university, make them a presentation on its strong points and the areas where they could involve themselves to help the university achieve its cherished dream to emerge as the `Global Centre of Excellence'.

Another decision was to prepare a directory of prospective donors - both at home and abroad - and try to rope them in for support to the university's `Concept Brochure'. Among the task force members that participated in the deliberations were university's Rector K. Sivasankara Reddy, Registrar N. Prabhakar Rao and Convener V. Chandramouliswara Rao.
