Isolated heavy rain likely in coastal T.N.

CHENNAI: Northeast monsoon has been active over coastal Tamil Nadu and Kerala.Rainfall occurred at most places over coastal Tamil Nadu and Kerala and at a few places over Lakshadweep.

Isolated rainfall occurred over interior Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Mainly dry weather prevailed over coastal and south interior Karnataka and dry weather prevailed over Telangana and north interior Karnataka.

The following stations recorded heavy to heavy rainfall in centimetres:

Sirkali (Nagapattinam dt.) 11, Parangipettai and Mayiladuthurai (Nagapattinam dt.) 9 each, Chidambaram (Cuddalore dt.) and Kozha (Kottayam dt.) 8 each and Karaikal, Panruti (Cuddalore dt.), Tiruvidaimarudur (Thanjavur dt.) and Thuckalay (Kanyakumari dt.) 7 each.

Forecast (valid until Friday morning): Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places over north coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, at many places over north interior Tamil Nadu and Kerala and at a few places over south Tamil Nadu, south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep. Isolated rain or thundershowers are likely to occur over north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, coastal and north interior Karnataka.

Heavy Rainfall Warning: Isolated heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur over north coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry during the next 48 hours.Isolated heavy rain is also likely to occur over north interior Tamil Nadu, south Kerala, Nellore and Chittur districts of Andhra Pradesh during the same period.
