IFFI poster, logo released

Chief Minister seeks change in schedule from next year

PANAJI: Formally releasing the poster and logo of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa Chief Minister Pratapsing Rane on Wednesday said the State had resolved to make it an "exciting festival with high visibility nationally as well as internationally."

The IFFI 2005 poster has been designed by cartoonist and artist Mario Miranda, and represents Goa, its art and culture and people. The tagline is `Celebrating IFFI Goa, 2005.'

The Goa Entertainment Society (GES), a State body dealing with entertainment, which is co-hosting IFFI with the Department of Film Festivals under the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry, unveiled an elaborate programme for IFFI on Wednesday. The State will be hosting IFFI for the second year.

Brand Goa

Briefing journalists about the preparations for IFFI to be held between November 24 and December 4, Sanjeet Rodrigues, Chief Executive Office and secretary of GES, expressed the resolve to make Goa one of the main destinations on the international film circuit and to showcase "brand Goa" with IFFI as the pride of India.

Mr. Rane, who returned from Delhi on Tuesday after attending a meeting chaired by Information and Broadcasting Minister S. Jaipal Reddy, said, "Goa, having asked to be made the permanent venue for IFFI and the Union Government having granted it, they have put full faith in us. We must prove worthy of it and keep up to the challenge to make Goa an internationally renowned venue for the film festival."

He announced the Government's plan to build an international convention centre to seat more than 4,000 in a public-private partnership at Dona Paula on the outskirts of Panaji. For now, it would utilise the available open premises for the IFFI inaugural and closing ceremonies with nearly 1,800 guests.

One of the highlights of this year's celebrations is the screening of films and entertainment.
