PONDICHERRY: Swarnam J. Natarajan, Judicial Magistrate I, has sentenced two men belonging to Chennai to five years rigorous imprisonment in a case of housebreaking and theft in Reddiarpalayam in May. The accused, Chandru alias Thikkuvai Ramu (32) and Iyyambalam (25) broke into the house of Jagannathan when he was out of town and took away cash and jewellery worth Rs. 3,00,000. Two mobile phones, Rs. 1,48,000 in cash, gold jewels weighing over 500 grams and gold-coated jewellery worth Rs 40,000 were stolen. Vepery police in Chennai, who arrested the two accused in a case of chain snatching discovered their involvement in the Pondicherry burglary during interrogation.
