Hari Chand Sardana remembered

NEW DELHI: Distinguished doctor and social worker Hari Chand Sardana was remembered by eminent politicians and artistes on his 25th death anniversary here over the weekend.

A "Bhajan Evening" was organised jointly by the Hari Chand Sardana Educational and Cultural Society and Aadharshila where 12 artistes were honoured with "Punarwas Pratibha Awards".

The Bhajan Evening was attended by Delhi Finance Minister A.K.Walia, Industry Minister Mangat Ram Singhal, Trans-Yamuna Development Board Chairman Narendra Nath, DPCC president Ram Babu Sharma and Aadharshila president Pradeep Sardana. The audience was regaled to two hours of devotional music.

Bank staff take a vow

NEW DELHI: Punjab National Bank is observing a Vigilance Awareness Week. All employees of the bank have pledged to strive for bringing about integrity and transparency in all spheres of activity and work for eradication of corruption. The employees also pledged to remain vigilant and work towards the growth and reputation of the bank and do their duty without fear or favour.

NHPC Raising Day

NEW DELHI: The 31st Raising Day of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) in neighbouring Faridabad was celebrated on Tuesday.

Union Power Secretary R.V. Shahi was welcomed as the chief guest by NHPC Chairman and Managing Director S. K. Garg. The CMD also gave details of the work done by the Corporation.

Focus on TB eradication

NEW DELHI: Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat has expressed concern that tuberculosis continues to pose major problems, especially to the poor, even though treatment for its eradication was discovered 40 years ago.

Addressing the doctors' from the Indian Medical Association Faridabad -- who presented him a book titled "The Test of Time" on tuberculosis-control -- at a function here on Tuesday, the Vice-President stressed the need to create public awareness about the disease as ignorance gives rise to myths and stigma that further compounds the hardships faced by the poor patients.

Water supply to be hit

NEW DELHI: Due to the installation of bulk water meter at the Bhagirathi water treatment plant in Jal Vihar Main, supply will be available at low pressure in large parts of the Capital on Thursday evening and Friday morning.

According to Delhi Jal Board release, Mayur Vihar Phase-I and Phase-II, Kalyanpuri, Trilokpuri, Mandawali Village, Preet Vihar, I.P. Extension, Patparganj Societies, Mother Dairy Road, Ganesh Nagar, besides New Delhi Municipal Council area, CGO Complex, UNIDO area, Pragati Vihar, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Lajpat Nagar, Jorbagh, South Extension, Bharti Nagar and Defence Colony would be the affected.
