NEW DELHI: For those with an obsession for nothing less than the "big" picture, this is where the search ends. A place where the dinosaurs actually seem to look you in the eye and the adventure extends from the screen to those watching it; this is cinema at its grandest.

And with the National Capital Region finally getting its first real "bada" IMAX screen, the cinema experience just got bigger and better. Promising ten times bigger action on the silver screen, IMAX is where the audience literally get to be part of the drama. And bringing the magic of the big format to the NCR region now is Aeren R group and Adlab Films, which will launch North India's first IMAX screen at the Rap Adlabs Multiplex in Pacific Mall Sahibabad on the outskirts of Delhi.

To be inaugurated in November-end, the theatre will open with one of the most keenly awaited films of the year, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'', giving the city its first 70 mm experience. The largest film format in the world, what makes the IMAX experience interesting is its unique geometry which when combined with the specially designed massive 450 square metre screen and digital surround sound system, makes the movie experience appear larger than life.

Boasting of an over 60-foot screen, the 450-seat capacity theatre is also equipped to screen the IMAX 2D and 3D format films. Although this one is the first in the North, more IMAX screens are likely to open up in the region in the coming years. Using a film format of 15/70, IMAX is ten times larger than the conventional 35 mm format, its unique rolling loop film movement ensures the largest, clearest and steadiest pictures in the world, according to IMAX.

And while one may expect the pricing here to be just as big as the screen, Adlabs would like to disagree. "We are looking at a variable pricing as of now. On an average, people may pay around Rs. 150 for the film through the year. There will be special offers, however, for schools and different pricing for evening and morning shows, with the weekend perhaps being on the higher end,'' said Pooja Shetty, the director of Adlabs Films.
