Devender Goud, four other senior TDP leaders held

Sequel to Warangal Collector's complaint on obstructing officials

KARIMNAGAR: The Warangal district police with the help of the Karimnagar police arrested five TDP senior leaders-- TDLP deputy leader T. Devender Goud, former Minister Kadiam Srihari, legislators Errabelli Dayakara Rao and Sana Maruthi and former Minister S. Veugopala Chary-- near the NTPC, Ramagundam, on Wednesday evening.

It may be recalled that Warangal district Collector Benhur Ekka and others had lodged a complaint with the police against the TDP leaders accusing them obstructing, abusing and threatening the officials on duty on Monday during their dharna programme in front of Warangal Collectorate. A police team led by the Warangal town DSP and others arrived in the district to arrest the TDP leaders.

Police sources said that the TDP leaders were arrested in Godavarikhani town when they were returning after participating in a dharna programme in the neighbouring Mancherial town as part of their agitational programme against the alleged neglect of Telangana projects by the Sate Government.

Mild tension prevailed in the industrial belt during the arrest of the TDP leaders with the local leaders trying to obstruct the arrests.

In protest against the arrests,TDP activists participated in a spontaneous rasta roko programme in Godavarikhani, Peddapalli, Sultanabad and Karimnagar towns.

District TDP leaders flayed the arrests and termed it as politically motivated.
