Sehgal questioned again
New Delhi:
Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials quizzed Union Minister K. Natwar Singh's relative Andaleeb Sehgal for the third successive day on Wednesday following allegations that he benefited illegally from the U.N.'s oil-for-food programme in Iraq.
Mr. Sehgal, a distant relative of Mr. Singh and friend of his son, Jagat Singh, was grilled by the ED on Monday and Tuesday.
His offices and residences were raided on Sunday.
The action came in the wake of the Paul Volcker Committee Report naming Mr. Sehgal, Mr. Singh and the Congress among the non-contractual beneficiaries of the U.N. programme.
Mr. Sehgal has denied any business links with the Minister's son, or with the Congress and rejected allegations of receiving commissions in the programme.
Sources in the family of Mr. Sehgal alleged that the officials attempted to browbeat him into implicating Mr. Natwar Singh in the scam.
The sources claimed that during interrogation, senior officials asked him to give a statement that he had passed on money to Mr. Singh. UNI, PTI
