Governor plants saplings at Raj Bhavan

Nearly 1000 saplings will be planted in the next two months

CHENNAI:
The Governor Surjit Singh Barnala inaugurated a massive tree-planting programme at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday with an aim to have a green cover.
Nearly 1,000 saplings will be planted at Raj Bhavan premises within the next two months. Tecoma stans, couroupita guinensis and gmelina arbora are some of the species that are being planted.
Lady Governor Surjit Kaur, Mr. Barnala's son Jasjit Singh, secretary to Governor C.K. Gariyali, Vandalur zoo director K.P.M. Perumal, wild life warden A.K. Srivastav, Guindy National Park superintendent M. Chellaperumal and other officials were present.
Children call on Barnala
Nearly 35 children from `Home for Poor Boys' attached to the Government Madrasa I Azam School along with president Syed M.M. Ameen called on the Governor on the occasion of Eid Milan. They presented a cheque for Rs. 2,200 to the Governor for those affected in the Kashmir earthquake.
The Governor presented a cheque for Rs. 10,000 from the Governor's Discretionary Fund to the Home.
