Out-of-turn promotion for three constables

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police Commissioner K. K. Paul on Wednesday awarded out-of-turn promotions to three constables of the Delhi police for diligent and brave policing.

Dr. Paul conferred the new ranks on Rajkumar of North-West Delhi police and Rishi Raj and Rajbir of the Special Cell of the Delhi police in a simple ceremony at Police Headquarters.

Rajkumar had worked hard to arrest 77 criminals who were evading their arrest and had been declared proclaimed offenders in various cases.

Rajbir and Rishi had showed exemplary courage during an encounter in which a dreaded criminal Aman Kumar -- wanted in cases of murder, kidnapping for ransom, rape, criminal intimidation and Arms Act -- was killed. The duo had sustained bullet injuries in the incident.

One held with smack

NEW DELHI: One person has been arrested by the West Delhi police for allegedly possessing smack.

According to the police, the accused, identified as one Vinod alias Pappu, was arrested near Bindapur in Uttam Nagar, West Delhi, on Tuesday around 7-15 p.m. He was found to be in possession of 702 gm of smack.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly told the police that he had procured the contraband from one Prakash, a resident of Ghaziabad. He also told the police that his relative, Arvind, who had also been arrested five months ago for possessing narcotic substance, had pushed him into narcotics trade.

A case has been registered at Uttam Nagar police station and further investigations are on.

One killed in fire

NEW DELHI: A 42-year-old man was charred to death in a fire that broke out in his house at Vikaspuri in West Delhi on Wednesday.

According to the police, the body of Ravi Jain, a resident of C-Block in Vikaspuri, was recovered by the fire brigade personnel around 12 p.m. Earlier, the neighbours had informed the fire brigade when they noticed smoke emanating from the house.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire started due to a short circuit in the electric metre. Meanwhile, Mr. Jain's body was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhaya Hospital where an autopsy was conducted. The police are awaiting the post-mortem report.

Vikaspuri police are investigating the case further.

Youngster arrested

NEW DELHI: A youngster has been arrested by the West Delhi police for allegedly selling pornographic VCDs.

According to the police, the accused, Rakesh Chaurasia, was arrested at the shop, Santosh Telecom and Video library, at Vikas Nagar in Uttam Nagar, West Delhi, on Tuesday. The police recovered 16 pornographic VCDs from the shop.

Body fished out of canal

NEW DELHI: The body of a 17-year-old boy, who had drowned in Kondli canal, at New Ashok Nagar in East Delhi on Tuesday was fished out on Wednesday after a 24-hour exercise.

According to a fire department spokesperson, Vikas, son of Dinesh Singh, a resident of Harola village in Noida, had drowned in the canal around 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The fire department sent its divers to look for Vikas. It was only this evening that Abdul Sattar, one of the divers, managed to recover his body.
