Brevity has never been a human virtue, especially when it comes to airing grievances. The majority who made submissions before the Prime Minister's high-level committee, set up to look into the socio-economic status of the Muslim community in India, were at their eloquent best. The panel held a sitting in Kozhikode on Wednesday. People explained in detail their views instead of focussing on the crux of the issue during an interactive session. The patience of the committee members seemed to wear out when the speakers began to engage in long-winding submissions. "Please come to the point. Be brief. You have only three minutes. Others have to speak too," was the refrain of the panel members, given the time constraint. The admonishment, however, made no impact. Even a suggestion stating that written representations could be handed over to the committee was not found tenable. At 5.45 p.m. there were over 15 participants in the queue waiting to make submissions though the sitting was to end at 6.15p.m.
