RPI in talks for tie-ups for zilla, taluk panchayat elections

Special Correspondent

GULBARGA: The Republican Party of India (Atwale) has completed one round of discussions with like-minded parties, including the Janata Dal (Secular) faction led by the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Samajwadi Party and the Janata Dal (United), for working out an alliance to contest the coming elections to the zilla and taluk panchayats.

District president of the party Ramachandra Dhankar and general secretary Pandurang M. Kotre told presspersons here on Thursday that the party leaders have completed one round of discussions and the outcome was satisfactory. The second round will be held shortly where the three parties are likely to work out the seat-sharing arrangement.

Mr. Dhankar said RPI is a registered political party at the national level. However, in the State, the party is not recognised and has submitted a petition to the State Election Commission to allot it the rising sun symbol.

The party leaders will tour the district from December 8 to 16 to finalise the list of candidates for the zilla and taluk panchayats. He urged aspiring candidates to submit their applications to the party.

Criticising the Government for failing to curb violence against Dalits, he said the party will stage a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Gulbarga on November 17.
