Strike call by women vendors in protest against bomb blast

IMPHAL: Shops and business establishments here were closed on Thursday in response to a 24-hour strike called by women vendors.

It is in protest against a bomb blast in the capital of Manipur on Tuesday by suspected insurgents, in which one woman was killed and 21 persons were injured.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh visited the injured persons in the hospitals and gave financial assistance to them. Meanwhile, the Joint Administrative Council of the government employees has announced an indefinite strike from November 15 to press their demands.

All contract, ad hoc and casual employees have not been paid salaries for months together. Clearance of the pending salary is also one among the demands.
