Diabetes camp on Sunday

Experts will provide information about ways to control and manage the disease

DAVANGERE: The Alur Chandrashekharappa Memorial Hospital here will organise a health camp for diabetics on Sunday. As part of the camp, free blood check-up and dental examination will be conducted at the Bapuji auditorium.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, Manjunath Alur, professor of medicine and chairman of the hospital, said the camp has been organised in memory of his father, Chandrashekarappa, and also to observe World Diabetes Day. Experts will provide information about ways to control and manage diabetes. Free medicines will be given to children with diabetes. An interactive programme and a painting competition have also been arranged. Preparation of sugarless sweets and soft drinks will be demonstrated at the camp, he said. Eight per cent of people above 30 years are diabetic. According to a study conducted by the World Health Organisation, the number of patients with diabetes will double every five years. People in Asia are prone to the disease because of a change in food habits, increasing stress and absence of physical exercise. Minister for Social Welfare Y. Nagappa will inaugurate the camp. Davangere MP G.M. Siddeshwar and editor of Janatavani H.N. Shadaksharappa will participate.
