CHANDIGARH: The Northern Grid is facing an acute power shortage due to outage of about 4,500 MW at the Central Generating Stations, mainly Nathpa Jhakri, Rihand, Dadri, Anpara and the Nuclear Power Plants at Narora and Kota, according to an official spokesman of the Haryana Power Generation Corporation. He said here on Thursday that one of the 110 MW units at the Panipat Thermal Power Station had been shut down for five days for annual preventive maintenance and one unit of 250 MW at Panipat was under repair. These factors had necessitated power regulation in the urban sector in the State for about three hours during the day. The power to industries would be regulated for about four hours in the evening peak hours. Efforts were being made to purchase additional power from other available sources.
