Bank employees threaten indefinite agitation

Ludhiana (Punjab): State Bank of Patiala employees on Thursday struck work in various parts of the State, protesting the ``unilateral decisions'' of the bank's management and threatened to launch an indefinite stir if it did not change its ``indifferent'' attitude. ``The management of the bank is taking decisions without having the opinion of the employees, which could be against the interest of employees and the bank itself,'' SBP Employees Union Joint Secretary Naresh Gaur said in Ludhiana.

"In our next meeting, scheduled to be held on November 20, we would decide our next course of action, which could include indefinite strike if management does not agree with our demands," he added.

Mr. Gaur also criticised the bank for ``unilaterally'' deciding to set up currency administration cells at different centres, under which branches would be forced to accept wads of bank notes from other branches without counting them.

All India State Bank of Patiala Employee Federation Assistant Secretary R K Jain said the management should agree to the ``genuine demands'' of the employees.
