NEW DELHI: With the admission of 16 new dengue patients to various city hospitals on Thursday, the number of cases in the Capital so far has now crossed the 800-mark. Of the new patients, 14 are from Delhi and one each from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, while 47 patients are still undergoing treatment at various hospitals. Though the death toll from the dreaded dengue has remained stable at eight, four each from Delhi and other States, during the past few days, the number of cases has seen a constant increase with over a dozen cases being reported on a daily basis. Significantly, this year has seen a massive spurt in dengue cases, as in 2004 only 271 cases were reported with only three deaths. So far, 554 cases have been reported from the Capital while 251 cases are from other States, taking the total to 805. Among the outstation patients, 106 are from Uttar Pradesh, 52 from Haryana and almost a 100 cases from other States. In Delhi, a whopping 532 cases have been reported from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi areas, while 18 cases are from VVIP New Delhi Municipal Council area, three from railway colonies and one from Delhi Cantonment.
