Woods praises Atwal

Shanghai: After Vijay Singh, it is the turn of Tiger Woods to speak highly of India's Arjun Atwal. Woods, the world's No. 1 player has struck a chord with Atwal, India's sole representative on the US PGA Tour and there is an unmistakable warmth when he speaks about the Indian who himself has been gushing about the American's modesty of late.

A couple of days back Atwal was talking about how, "it was fun playing with Tiger," and today, after the first round in HSBC Championship, Woods was saying the same thing about Atwal.

Asked about his practice rounds with the Indian, Woods said, "I've known Arjun for a while. He has a place in Orlando and I think he might become a member at the same club. I saw him around there quite often this summer and have been practising together sometimes. Arjun is a great guy. I enjoy his company and it's always fun to play practice rounds with him."

On Atwal's progress this year, Woods said, "he's had some success. This year at the BellSouth he played really well and came close and was in a play-off and he lost unfortunately. He will do well." — PTI
