Commodity prices

The following were the rates (Rs. per kg) of essential commodities in local wholesale market on Monday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce & Industry: groundnut oil-54, palmolein oil-40, sunflower oil-48.50, tamarind (flower variety)-21 to 27, tamarind (karipuli variety)-42 to 48, chillies (refrigerated)-25 to 30, chillies (non-refrigerated)-10 to 15, rice 2716-13, rice super fine-15, rice Sona Masuri 16 to 17 samba-15 to 16, Black gram (pottu minappappu)-38 and Red gram (kandipappu) desavali-25.

VMC ban

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has banned sticking posters and arranging flags and buntings at public places for the purpose of propaganda and advertisement without prior permission from Municipal Commissioner. Any violation of this ban will lead to punitive action, the VMC said in a statement.

Commissioner's directive

Municipal Commissioner N. Gulzar has directed the corporation officials to beautify the canal bunds by raising greenery and preventing pollution.

On Thursday, he visited Ryves canal, Bandar locks, canal bunds, Durgapuram Gulabi Thota, Kurmayya bridge, Kotha Vantena, Alluri Sitaramaiah bridge, Sundaraiah Nagar, Sanjivaiah colony, Eluru locks, Apsara theatre junction, Brindavan colony and other areas.

Exhibitors' office-bearers

Muttavarapu Venkateswara Rao, proprietor of Swarna Complex AC, has been re-elected president of Vijayawada Exhibitors Association for 2005-06, at the annual general body meeting of the association held on Wednesday.

Shantilal Solanki of Srinivasa Mahal and R.V.R.Chowdary of Sri Durga Mahal have been elected vice-presidents. R.V.Bhupal Prasad of Navrang AC theatre (secretary), B.Venkateswara Rao of Srinivasa theatre and Venkatakrishna mini theatre at Poranki (joint secretaries). G.Viswanath of Urvasi complex AC theatres is the treasurer.
