VIJAYAWADA: A delegation of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) submitted a memorandum to district Collector Navin Mittal, demanding payment of compensation to farmers in the flood-hit areas in the district. The delegation, consisting of party's Polit Bureau member Lal Jan Basha, former Minister J.R. Pushpa Raj, district president Ambati Brahmanaiah and Nandigama MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, met the Collector on Thursday and apprised him about the problems of flood-hit farmers. They pointed out that paddy was irrecoverably damaged due to submersion and water logging in Kaikluru, Mandavalli and other areas. The TDP leaders expressed concern that the Government announced some compensation to paddy farmers, but they were not receiving the same. They urged the Collector to take immediate steps to provide the compensation to affected farmers.
Floods
They pointed out that heavy rain in August, September and October caused floods in the Krishna river, and Munneru, Wyra, Kattaleru, Budameru and other streams. The Kolleru lake also witnessed floods, which submerged thousands of acres of paddy crop. The estimated loss caused to farmers as a result of this was Rs. 450 crores. In some place, weaker section people lost their houses.
