Government declares seven-day mourning

Bangalore: The Government has declared a seven-day mourning (from November 9) as a mark of respect to the memory of former President K.R. Narayanan who passed away in New Delhi on Wednesday. No major public functions or public entertainment programmes will be held during the period. The Government has directed that the national flag atop all government buildings be flown at half-mast.

Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, who has mourned Mr. Narayanan, left for New Delhi on Thursday to participate in the funeral. The Karnataka Sahitya Academy has postponed its annual awards presentation, which was scheduled to be held in Shimoga on Saturday, in view of the national mourning on account of the death of former President K.R. Narayanan. This was announced by chairperson of the academy Geetha Nagabhushana. The inauguration of "Udyoga Soudha", the new building of the Karnataka Public Service Commission, which was scheduled for Friday, has also been postponed, according to Chairman of the commission H.N. Krishna. The "musical fountain" shows on Sankey Road have been cancelled on Friday and Saturday.
