BANGALORE: Two armed youths threatened a jeweller and robbed him of gold ornaments and silver articles estimated at Rs. 1.10 lakhs and Rs. 25,000 in cash in Ulsoor Gate police station limits on Wednesday night. The police said that around 10 p.m., Pradeep, who owns a jewellery shop in Nagarathpet, was riding home on his scooter in Cubbonpet. On nearing Ganigarpet, two youths, who were riding a motorcycle, waylaid him. They brandished a knife and robbed him of a bag containing 10 kg of silver articles, 850 grams of gold ornaments and cash, the police said. The Ulsoor Gate police have registered a case. Three men, riding a motorcycle, waylaid a couple on Airport Road and robbed them of a bag containing Rs. 7,000 in cash, a mobile phone and credit cards. The police said that around 11 p.m. the robbers stopped Poonacha and his wife, who were riding a motorcycle, and threatened them with knives. They snatched the bag containing cash and other articles from Mr. Poonacha's wife and fled. On a complaint by Mr. Poonacha, a resident of Ananadapalya and owner of a security agency, the Ulsoor police have registered a case. In the third incident reported from J.C. Nagar police station limits, two youths, who came on a motorcycle, robbed a man from Chennai of a mobile phone estimated at Rs. 13,700. The police said that around 10.15 p.m. when Chandrasekhar was about to catch an autorickshaw at Jayamahal to reach Indiranagar, the two youths snatched his mobile phone and pushed him. The J.C. Nagar police have registered a case.
Chain snatched
A youth snatched a gold chain estimated Rs. 20,000 from a woman in Thyagarajanagar police station limits on Thursday. The police said that around 6.30 a.m. the youth snatched the chain from Anitha Krishna Murthy, a resident of Model House Street, while she was drawing "rangoli" in front of her house. He escaped on a motorcycle on which his friend was waiting at a distance. The Thyagarajanagar police have registered a case.
Youth killed in accident
A 24-year-old man was killed after the multi-utility vehicle, in which he was travelling, rammed a stationary lorry on Bellary Road, off Allalasandra, around 5 a.m. on Thursday. The driver of the multiutility vehicle and another passenger were injured. The police gave the name of the dead as Madhu of Vatadahosahalli in Gauribidanur taluk of Kolar district. The Hebbal traffic police have registered a case.
Ornaments recovered
The Upparpet police have arrested two youths on charges of burglary and recovered from them gold ornaments and silver articles, all estimated at Rs. 1.20 lakhs. The police said the arrested, Vajra Murthy (22) of J.P. Nagar and Harish Kumar (23) of Shimoga, had burgled three houses in Mahadevapura police station limits. The Kalasipalya police have arrested three persons on charges of robbery and recovered from them two gold chains, together estimated at Rs. 15,000. The names of the arrested were given as Pradeep (21) of Vinobhanagar, Yelumalai (21) of Siddapura and Satish (20) of Doddamavalli.
Arrested
The Wilson Garden police have arrested a lorry driver, Vijay Kumar (28) of Chikmagalur district, on the charge of murdering the lorry owner Gangadhar Shetty (49) on H. Siddaiah Road on October 20.
